You’ll walk into a space that looks completely different. The dullness disappears. The etching from wine, coffee, or cleaning products—gone. What’s left is the high-gloss finish your marble had when it was first installed, maybe better.
This isn’t a temporary fix. When we restore marble floors in Morningside Heights, we use diamond abrasive grinding to remove damaged layers and rebuild the surface from the stone up. That means the shine lasts. The protection holds. And you’re not calling someone back in six months because it faded.
Your marble becomes something you’re proud to show off again. It reflects light the way it should. It feels smooth under your feet. And if you’re selling or renting, it stops being a liability and starts adding value to your property.
NYC Stone Care is a family-owned marble restoration company in Morningside Heights, NY, run by a master craftsman who’s spent four decades perfecting stone restoration. We’re not a franchise. We’re not new to this. We’ve worked in landmark museums, historic theaters, and hundreds of high-end residential buildings across Manhattan.
Morningside Heights has some of the most beautiful pre-war buildings in the city. Marble lobbies, original bathroom floors, kitchen countertops that have been here since the 1920s. We understand what it takes to work on stone in buildings like yours—where every surface has history and every job requires precision.
We don’t leave until you’re satisfied. That’s not a tagline. That’s how we operate.
First, we assess the damage. Not every marble floor needs the same treatment. Some need full grinding and polishing. Others just need honing or stain removal. We’ll tell you exactly what yours needs and why.
Next, we prep the area and start the diamond abrasive grinding process. This removes the damaged top layer—the etching, the dullness, the stains—and exposes fresh stone underneath. We work in stages, using finer and finer abrasives until the surface is completely smooth.
Then comes polishing. We rebuild the finish using compounds designed specifically for marble. This is where the shine comes back. We’re not applying a coating that wears off. We’re bringing out the natural gloss that’s already in the stone.
Finally, we clean everything up and walk you through maintenance. You’ll know what to use, what to avoid, and how to keep your marble looking like this for years. The whole process is faster than you’d think, and we work around your schedule.

You get a full evaluation before we start. We’ll identify every issue—etching, scratches, discoloration, water damage—and explain what we can fix and what we can’t. No surprises.
The restoration itself covers grinding, honing, polishing, stain removal, and repair. We handle marble floors, countertops, vanities, showers, walls, and fireplace surrounds. If it’s marble and it’s damaged, we can restore it.
In Morningside Heights, we see a lot of marble damage from hard water and acidic cleaners. The buildings here are older, and many homeowners don’t realize their all-purpose cleaner is slowly eating away at their stone. We reverse that damage and show you how to prevent it from happening again.
You also get a free consultation and estimate. We’ll come to your property, look at the marble in person, and give you an honest assessment. If restoration isn’t the right move, we’ll tell you. But most of the time, it is—and it costs a fraction of what replacement would.
Most residential jobs take one to three days depending on square footage and the condition of the marble. A small bathroom might be done in a few hours. A large lobby or multiple rooms could take longer.
We work efficiently, but we don’t rush. The grinding and polishing process has to be done in stages, and each stage needs time to be done right. If we’re working in an occupied building, we coordinate with you to minimize disruption.
You’ll have access to the space again as soon as we’re finished. There’s no curing time or waiting period. Once we’re done, your marble is ready to use.
Yes. This is one of the most common problems we see. Acidic cleaners—anything with vinegar, lemon, or harsh chemicals—etch marble by dissolving the calcium carbonate in the stone. It leaves dull spots that don’t come out with more cleaning.
We remove the etched layer through diamond grinding, then rebuild the surface with polishing compounds. The result is a uniform, high-gloss finish that looks factory-new. The etching is completely gone.
After we’re done, we’ll recommend pH-neutral cleaners that won’t damage your marble. Most people don’t know they’re using the wrong products until the damage is already done. We make sure it doesn’t happen again.
Almost always, yes. Replacement means tearing out the old marble, disposing of it, buying new stone, and paying for installation. You’re looking at tens of thousands of dollars for a typical floor, plus weeks of construction and dust.
Restoration costs a fraction of that. We’re working with the marble you already have, so there’s no demo, no new material costs, and no major construction. Most jobs are done in days, not weeks.
And here’s the thing—your original marble is often better quality than what you’d buy new today. Pre-war buildings in Morningside Heights used thick, high-grade stone. Restoring it makes more sense than replacing it with something thinner and less durable.
Honing gives you a matte or satin finish. Polishing gives you a high-gloss, reflective finish. Both are legitimate finishes—it just depends on the look you want and where the marble is located.
Honed marble hides scratches and etching better, so it’s popular in high-traffic areas or homes with kids and pets. Polished marble looks more formal and luxurious, but it shows damage more easily. Most people in Morningside Heights prefer polished for lobbies, bathrooms, and kitchens.
We can do either. If your marble was originally polished and you want it back to that, we’ll polish it. If you want to switch to honed for easier maintenance, we can do that too. It’s your call.
If you maintain it properly, the shine lasts for years. We’re not applying a topical coating that wears off. We’re polishing the stone itself, which means the finish is part of the marble, not sitting on top of it.
That said, marble is calcium-based, so it will etch again if exposed to acids. Spilled wine, lemon juice, or harsh cleaners will dull the surface over time. But normal foot traffic and regular cleaning with the right products won’t hurt it.
We’ll show you exactly how to care for your marble after restoration. Most of our clients go years before needing any touch-ups, and even then, it’s minor work—not a full restoration.
Yes. We serve all of Morningside Heights and the surrounding Manhattan neighborhoods. We’ve worked in buildings along Riverside Drive, Morningside Drive, and Broadway, and we’re familiar with the marble commonly found in this area.
